Zeiss 85mm F1.4 Otus ML Lens - Nikon Z

The ZEISS Otus 85mm f/1.4 ML Lens for Nikon Z is a premium manual-focus portrait lens designed to capture life’s richest stories with striking clarity. Evolved from the acclaimed Otus DSLR series, this mirrorless-native version delivers the iconic ZEISS look with uncompromised optical performance, superb build quality, and a tactile focusing experience that invites full creative control.

Optical Brilliance

At its core, the Otus ML 85mm harnesses a complex 15-element/11-group design, including an aspherical element and special glass with anomalous partial dispersion. This ensures edge-to-edge sharpness and minimal chromatic aberrations—even wide open at f/1.4. It excels in low-light conditions, offering impeccable rendering of textures and fine detail, with impressive micro-contrast that contributes to a near-3D visual character. ZEISS’ famed colour fidelity ensures natural skin tones and accurate, vivid colour reproduction.

Bokeh and Depth

With its fast f/1.4 aperture and 10-blade diaphragm, the lens delivers beautifully soft and harmonious bokeh. Whether you’re shooting tight portraits or environmental scenes, the shallow depth of field precisely isolates your subject, drawing the viewer’s eye exactly where you want it. The transitions are smooth, and out-of-focus areas are rendered with a pleasing, creamy quality.

Craftsmanship and Handling

Built with a full-metal housing, the Otus ML lens exudes durability and precision. The manual focus ring offers 244° of travel, enabling meticulous adjustments and a truly tactile shooting experience. With clearly engraved yellow scale markings and a smooth helicoid mechanism, it’s engineered for those who demand absolute focus precision.

Optimised for Mirrorless

Specifically designed for Nikon Z mirrorless cameras, this version maintains a compact yet robust profile that balances perfectly on full-frame Z-series bodies. It supports ZEISS’ DeClick aperture function, allowing for stepless and silent aperture adjustments ideal for video work.

Creative Freedom

The Otus ML 85mm isn’t just a tool—it’s a deliberate choice for storytellers who value mastery of their craft. Whether you’re capturing emotional portraits or cinematic stills, this lens empowers you to translate vision into imagery with absolute intent.
